Answers

Reformers advocated changes to many aspects of an industrialized society to make it less exploitative and unjust. To ensure workers were treated more fairly and had better rights, they proposed the end of child labor, the introduction of a minimum wage, and the introduction of workplace safety regulations. They also called for the creation of labor unions to protect employees’ rights and a reduction in work hours to allow employees more leisure time. To reduce the economic inequality that was rampant in the industrial age, reformers advocated for progressive taxation that would target those with greater economic resources. To reduce the power of the wealthy and privileged, they advocated for laws that limited monopolies, break up trusts, and strengthened anti-corruption legislation. To improve lives of members of society living in poverty, they proposed expanding access to basic welfare and healthcare, as well as providing free education. Finally, they advocated that governments should invest more in infrastructure and public works projects, to help create better and more stable jobs for citizens.
