why is Bihar less developed

Bihar is one of India's least developed states due to a number of social and economic factors. Bihar has a long history of corruption, inadequate infrastructure and services, lack of investment in human capital and an unreliable energy supply. The high population density of this region and its low literacy rate are other factors contributing to the low level of economic activity. Additionally, the small and fragmented landholdings in the region, a lack of industrialisation, poor education system and poor public transport system have all limited Bihar's growth potential. Furthermore, political instability and social unrest in this region has hindered any positive economic growth.
