Why did Beethoven go to Vienna in 1787

Beethoven journeyed to Vienna in 1787 to study composition with Franz Joseph Haydn, the Austrian composer and one of the most prominent figures of the classical music period. He was also seeking the patronage of influential court figures in the Austrian capital.
