James Hargreaves is credited with inventing the spinning jenny around 1764 in Crawshawbooth, Lancashire, England. The spinning jenny was a multi-spool spinning wheel that allowed for the production of thread from eight spindles at once, as opposed to the traditional one spindle at a time.
