What is a material recovery facility? what is one drawback?

Answers

A Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is a specialized plant that receives, separates, and prepares recyclable materials for reuse. It is usually comprised of a combination of manual sorting, equipment like conveyors and screening, and advanced technologies like optical sorters. The purpose of an MRF is to collect and process recyclables quickly and efficiently so that they can be sent to manufacturers for reprocessing. One of the main drawbacks of an MRF is the cost associated with setting it up and operating it. In addition to the physical infrastructure, MRFs require a substantial workforce with specialized training to operate the plant as well as a coherent waste management policy. Furthermore, some materials can be difficult to sort, resulting in contamination of batches of recyclables, making them unsellable and thus reducing financial returns on investment.
