why did the colonists need their independence?

Answers

The colonists needed their independence because they believed the British government in London was limiting the freedoms promised in the 17th century by King Charles II of England and because they wanted to be able to create and govern their own society without interference from British authorities. The colonists felt they should have full representation in any laws and taxes imposed on them, in addition to a number of other grievances ranging from taxation without representation to the enforcement of unpopular laws by the British government.
