Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) is a civil rights organization that was founded in 1957 by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other leaders of the civil rights movement. The SCLC's mission is to help coordinate nonviolent protest demonstration campaigns against racial segregation and discrimination. It provides education, training, and resources to empower grassroots activists in the U.S. South to work for greater economic and social justice. In addition to its civil rights advocacy, the SCLC also works to advance social and economic justice through voter registration drives, economic empowerment programs, and other community organizing initiatives.
