Socialization is the process by which a person learns the expectations, values, and behaviors of the social group to which they belong. It is both the process of learning culture and the ways in which individuals internalize it. One agent of socialization that can be impactful on a person's life is the family. The family is often the main source of socialization in early life. From the family we learn what is expected of us in terms of behavior, values, attitudes, as well as how to interact with others and how to handle challenging situations. Family socialization is essential in building a person's identity and laying the groundwork for how they will interact with the world as they grow up.
