The Northern and Middle colonies had several similarities. Both regions were largely founded as a result of religious freedoms. Religious domination was significantly less in the Northern and Middle colonies as compared to the Southern colonies, which were largely dominated by the Anglican Church. Furthermore, they both had vibrant trade and commerce and shared similar socio-economic structures. The Southern and Middle colonies also shared similar attributes. Both regions underwent a large amount of immigration, primarily from England and Germany. They both exported large amounts of tobacco and had an economy heavily dependent on agriculture and the production of goods. They shared common social customs, culture, and language. Additionally, both areas contained a wide range of religious groups and beliefs.
