Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. A combination of two or more types of matter is known as a mixture. Most mixtures are made up of two components: a solute, which is the substance being dissolved, and a solvent, which is the substance the solute is being dissolved in. Examples of mixtures include ocean water, apple juice, and even concrete. The components of a mixture can be separated out by physical means, such as filtration, evaporation, or centrifugation.
