The x and y axis are axes on a coordinate plane. The x-axis is the horizontal axis and the y-axis is the vertical axis. The point (x, y) is located on the x-axis and the y-axis cross at the origin (0, 0). The x-axis is typically used for the independent variable, and the y-axis is typically used for the dependent variable. Together they plot a location or relationship between two variables. For example, when drawing a line graph, the x-axis will be where the independent variable is plotted and the y-axis is where the dependent variable is plotted.
