A boy wishes to row directly across a river but the current flows at 1.5m.s-1 east. He can row at 3m.s-1. Draw a labelled vector diagram

Answers

The vector diagram will look like this: ~Current Vector: 1.5m/s@East Rowing Vector: 3m/s@West Net Vector: 1.5m/s@West The boy will need to row 3m/s in the opposite direction of the current flowing at 1.5m/s if he wants to reach the opposite shore of the river in the shortest time possible. The vector diagram shows the magnitude and direction of the current and of the boy's rowing velocity, and the resultant net vector, which is the overall velocity of the boat. The resultant vector shows the direction and speed at which the boat will traverse across the river.
