The rms speed of a sample of gas is increased by 8% . What is the percent change in the temperature of the gas? What is the percent change in the pressure of the gas, assuming its volume is held constant? PLEASE HELP

Answers

The change in temperature of a gas is directly linked to its change in speed according to the equation $$T = \frac{mv^2}{3k_b}$$ where m is the mass of the molecule, v is the speed and k_b is Boltzmann's constant. A 8% increase in the speed of the gas will therefore result in a 8% increase in its temperature. If the volume of the gas is held constant, the change in pressure will be the same as the change in temperature. Therefore, the percent change in the pressure of the gas is also 8%.
