Remote sensing offers an efficient and cost-effective way to obtain information about areas or objects from a distance. By using satellites or drones to capture images from the surface below, remote sensing allows for the collection of valuable data without intruding on the environment. This data can be used to determine the physical characteristics of an area, such as landcover, vegetation, and geology, as well as the agricultural and urban development of the area. Remote sensing can also produce maps that show precise information about the topography of an area or object and can be used to detect environmental changes such as floods, wildfires, landslides, and earthquakes. In addition, remote sensing can monitor water bodies and watersheds, assess land degradation, track changes to ice sheets and glaciers, and estimate crop yields and biomass.
