Phosphorylation of glucose during glycolysis is catalysed by A. Phosphoglucomutase B. Phosphoglucoisomerase C. Hexokinase D. Phosphorylase

Answers

Answer: C. Hexokinase. Hexokinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step of glycolysis, the phosphorylation of glucose, resulting in the formation of glucose-6-phosphate. It is the only enzyme in glycolysis able to catalyze the phosphorylation of glucose. The other three enzymes listed (Phosphoglucomutase, Phosphoglucoisomerase and Phosphorylase) all catalyze later steps in the glycolysis pathway and are not involved in the phosphorylation of glucose.
