non-governmental organisation (NGO)

A non-governmental organization (NGO) is an organization that is not part of a government and is not under the control of any single government or organization. NGOs are generally organized and funded by individuals, charitable organizations, businesses, or other groups and organizations. They provide humanitarian, educational, or conservation services or work to promote social or economic development or democracy. Examples of NGOs can include charities, relief organizations, international development organizations, advocacy and rights organizations, community-based organizations, and think tanks.
