The mean is a type of average and it is calculated by finding the sum of all the numbers in a set and then dividing by the total number of numbers in the set. For example, if you have a set of numbers 2, 5, 7, 10, the sum of all the numbers is 24, and there are 5 numbers in the set. To find the mean you would divide 24 by 5, which results in 4. Therefore, the mean of this set is 4.
