Angelique says that finding the absolute value is the same as finding the opposite of the number. For example, -5=5.. Explain her error. I need help on the question, and what is the absolute value.

Angelique is incorrect.

The absolute value of a number is the numerical value of a number, regardless if it is negative or positive. It is the distance between the number and zero on the number line.

For example, the absolute value of -5 is 5 because -5 is 5 units away from 0 on the number line. So, the absolute value of -5 is not equal to 5 as Angelique suggested; it is simply 5.
