How many principles are there to the Ecosystem Approach and how may sections?

The Ecosystem Approach has five principles and three sections. The five principles of the Ecosystem Approach are: Consider the Whole Ecosystem; Promote Adaptive Management; Lead Through Engagement and Collaboration; Recognize and Respect Ecosystem Services; and Build upon Existing Resources and Systems. The three sections address the following topics: Defining and Understanding the Ecosystem, Managing for Sustainability, and Developing Ecosystem Planning and Management Strategies. The first principle, consider the whole ecosystem, states that all parts of an ecosystem must be taken into account when any action is taken or management decision is made. The second principle, promote adaptive management, refers to the development and implementation of management strategies that are flexible and responsive to changing conditions. The third principle, lead through engagement and collaboration, encourages decision-makers and stakeholders to work together to develop and manage the ecosystem in a holistic way. The fourth principle, recognize and respect ecosystem services, emphasizes the importance of understanding and valuing the services that nature and ecosystems provide to society. The final principle, build upon existing resources and systems, calls for the utilization of existing resources, methods and information in both planning and management activities.
