How did the reactions of the Seminoles and the Cherokees to Indian removal differ? What was the result for each tribe?

Answers

The Seminoles and Cherokees reacted differently to Indian Removal. The Seminoles were much more resistant to removal, fighting to remain in their homeland in Southern Florida. The Seminoles went to war with the US in 1817 and 1818, which resulted in the US allocating them a large reservation in the area. The Seminoles remain native to the area today. The Cherokees had initially also resisted removal. However, in 1835, they were forced to sign the Treaty of New Echota which ceded all Cherokee lands east of the Mississippi to the US. The Cherokees were then forcibly relocated during the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma, where most of them remain today.
