Abnormality can be defined as a deviation from what is socially accepted as normal or typical behavior. This means that behavior which deviates significantly from the accepted norms of a cultural, ethnic, or social group can be considered abnormal. This deviation may be in the form of an aberrant thought, emotion, or behavior that is considered to be socially unacceptable and is not consistent with what could be expected in a given social context. The behavior may be outside the range of behaviors considered to be regular and acceptable in a particular culture or social group. This deviation can also be extreme in cases where it takes the form of a compulsion or obsession which consumes the person’s life, making it difficult or impossible to participate in other areas of life.
