Compare and contrast renewable energy sources and nonrenewable energy sources. (p. 372)

Answers

Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, and tidal energy are naturally replenished and never run out, unlike non-renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels which are finite and will eventually run out. Renewables are more environmentally friendly as they produce fewer emissions, while burning fossil fuels causes air pollution and climate change. Renewable energy sources are generally more expensive to install, but the cost savings from lower fuel bills and government subsidies can sometimes offset this. Non-renewable energy sources have a more localized impact on the environment, where renewable energy sources have a greater global impact because of their contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, renewable energy sources are much better for the planet and provide a reliable, secure source of energy.
