Compound 1 / Compound 2 / O " CH2 = CH - CH - OH + CH3 - CH - CH2 - C ' ' ' CH3 CH3 OH i) Identify any functional groups in Compounds 1 and 2 and name them. ii) Complete the equation for reaction 1 by drawing the abbreviated structural formula(e) of the products of this reaction. Identify any new functional groups it the organic products, name them?? iii) state the type of reaction that has occurred and explain in one sentence how you arrived at the answer Drawing structural formulas on the computer is almost impossible.

i) The functional groups in Compound 1 are an alcohol (OH) and an alkene (CH2=CH-CH-OH). The functional group in Compound 2 is an alkane (CH3-CH-CH2-C).

ii) The equation for reaction 1 is: CH2=CH-CH-OH + CH3-CH-CH2-C --> CH3-CH2-CH2-OH + CH3-CH=CH2. The new functional group in the organic products is an alkene (CH3-CH=CH2).

iii) The type of reaction that has occurred is an elimination reaction, in which a molecule with one or more functional groups loses an atom to give a double bond.
