The chemicals make rain acidic how does it happen? Is it this it? The chemicals from the black smoke gets mixed up in the water cycle and creates acid rain.

Yes, that is correct. When emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the atmosphere, complex chemical reactions occur which transform those pollutants into acid. When the mixture of pollutants and water vapor is present in sufficient quantity, the pollutants can form clouds, and eventually the particles will be returned to the ground as precipitation, in the form of acid rain.
