You know an equation has no solution when you try to solve it and there is no value that makes the equation true. This may happen when you have to solve an equation in one variable where the results of the equation do not match up. For example, if the equation is 2x =12, the value of x would be 6, which makes the equation true. If however, the equation is 2x = 11, then there is no value of x that can make this equation true, so it has no solution.
