1. Provisioning Services – These services refer to the goods and materials obtained from the environment. Examples include freshwater, building materials, and food sources. 2. Regulating Services – These services refer to the natural processes that regulate the environment. Examples include climate regulation, water filtration, and pest control. 3. Cultural Services – These services refer to the non-material benefits obtained by people from the environment. Examples include spiritual nourishment, aesthetic appreciation, and recreational opportunities. 4. Supporting Services – These services refer to the processes and functions which maintain the environment and make it possible for other services to occur. Examples include soil formation, nutrient cycling, and primary production.
