What was the Thirty Years War?

The Thirty Years War was in fact not one but rather a series of wars that occured all over Europe starting from 1618 and until 1648. The main reason was the conflict between the Protestants and the Catholics, which resulted in millions of casualties among civilians and soldiers on both sides; famine and epidemics accompanied the war, increasing the number of its victimes even more.
