What happened during the Holocaust in WWII?

The Holocaust is one of the greatest tragedies in the history of the 20th century; national-socialistic ideology (or simply Nazism) declared many ethnicities to be inferior to the German one; some of these ethnicities, such as Roms and Jews, where declared to be hostile and necessary to destroy. Holocaust is the genocide of European Jews by Nazis and their allies.
