How was the Spanish Armada defeated in 1588?
Answers
The Spanish Armada was a large naval fleet gathered to invade England; however, due to the Spanish fleet's large size it was extremely clumsy, so the united fleet of England and Netherlands comprising mostly light and meneuvrable ships harrassed the Armada for almost two weeks. The confrontation ended with the defeat of the Armade; it had to retreat along England's eastern coast. However, in the result of the strong storms, many Spanish ships wrecked at the western shores of Ireland. Such was the end of the fleet that seemed to be undefeatable.
