Would it be correct for an employee to tell the customer that he or she does not know the answer to a particular question?

This is not appreciated, but it is possible, althoug if employee will say, that he/she does not know the answer, but will find it as soon as possible and get back to the client. This is the solution, if we talk about personal sales, for example. In phone conversations employee can not tell the client, that he/she does not know the answer.
