WW1 was a great opportunity for African Americans to fight not only for the United States, but also for respect and equality, since the war occurred in the times of racial segregation and various infringements upon the rights of black people. The American Army comprised all-black regiments: the 9th and 10th Cavalry regiments, 24th and 25th Infantry regiments. In their turn, women provided strong assistance to the American war effort serving as nurses in battlefielf hospitals, or replacing men who left to the war on their jobs back at home
