Can you describe the history of the Celtic peoples? It seems to be not clear in many textbooks.

The Celts originated in Central Europe, in and around the Alps. Starting in the 6th century BC, the Celts began expanding out of their original homeland, and by 250 BC could be found throughout Europe: Spain, France, southern Germany, the British Isles, Italy, the Balkans, and even as far east as Turkey. Over the years, the Celts were driven out of their homeland by Germanic tribes and in other regions where the Romans had conquered land. By the start of the second century AD, Ireland and Scotland were the only Celtic lands that had yet to be conquered by the Romans. While parts of the Roman Empire maintained their Celtic language and culture, they were gradually Romanized, so that by the fall of Rome, they were fully part of the Roman cultural sphere (one major exception to this was Britain, which was a remote corner of the Roman Empire).By the start of the Middle Ages, those Celtic regions previously controlled by the Romans were now in the hands of Germanic tribes such as the Franks and Visigoths, and the only places where Celts remained in power and maintained a presence were in the British Isles, Brittany, and Galicia.
